Seth Thomas, "Regulator No. 1", C. 1875. Rosewood veneered case is 34" tall and in above average condition. The dial bezel is usually the place that has veneer problems. It has a place or two where the veneer was loose and glued back, a few small areas where the veneer is missing, but no visible repairs. They sanded those places, stained them, and are hardly noticeable. The edges are rough in a few places but overall the veneer looks real good There are a couple of places on the base where the edges were nicked, but for its age the clock is as good or better than you will find anywhere. Other good points; a complete and near perfect, black and gold label, including the paper beat scale at the bottom, on the sliding partition that separates the pendulum from the weight chute; an almost perfect tablet painting, with just a smidgen of paint loss. The original dial was apparently repainted years ago. The dial is attached to a circle of wood consisting of 9 pie shaped wood pieces. For whatever reason, one of the nine was replaced, of course it is under the dial and you can't see it. The hands are correct replacements. The movement is 8 day, weight driven, time only with rectangular solid plates, maintaining power, and a Graham dead beat escapement. The pendulum bob appears to be original although was originally nickel plated, now brass colored. The stick is a very old replacement and the stick hanger a very well made replacement. The flat weight no doubt came with the movement. We have sold a few of these over the years and haven't had any that were nicer. Ly-Seth Thomas #354.
